Cataloochee Valley
Today my wife and I took a ride about a hour and a half away to a different part of the Great Smoky Mts called Cataloochee Valley. The foliage was at peak from what we could tell and thankfully the weather channel was wrong and the weather wasn’t rainy at all and was beautiful. We started off our day with a 2 mile hike to Woodys Place, a very nice 1900ish house that is surrounded by beautiful mountains. The hike was a pretty annoying one, we had to cross 3 creeks, all of which we had to tip toe across logs which were atleast 5 to 6 ft off the water at the lowest. Nothing gets your heart pounding like dangling your expensive gear across water. The hike back down was no where near as bad, we ate lunch at a picnic table and watched some Turkeys in the meadows, and we could hear the Elk bugling in the distance. Up to this point we had seen no Elk, or animals period except a couple of squrriels and the turkeys. We drove down the road until we could see a herd moving across the meadow grazing and we quickly parked, grabbed our gear and headed down.
Amy, being the responsible and level headed person she is, didn’t follow me into the field to get as close as I could to the Elk. She also of course was giving me the obligatory warnings from a distance ” Babe you better be careful!” ” Jeremy you’re getting to close”. I explained to her a photographer’s way of thinking…. get the shot first, run if needed second! Overall it was a great day and here are some shots I got! Also, Amy is making her a blog today or tomorrow and you should definitely check out her shots! She is my little photographer in training!

Girl Scout Troops Portrait Session
On Oct 20th, we shot a portrait session for the daisy and brownie troop in Madison County. There were around 20 individual portraits taken and 2 group portraits. We appreciate the troops for selecting us to do their portraits and as a token of our appreciation we will be donating a portion of each sale back to the troop. Here is one of the many girls we shot on Tuesday. This is Jennifer from the Brownie troop.

Cades Cove 10/18/09
These are a few of the 60ish keepers I took from this weekends Cades Cove trip. We made 4 trips around the Cove, with it raining all day long. Good thing our cameras are sealed tight. We were plagued with some water spots in our images from rain on our lenses but overall things turned out good. Only deer and turkeys this trip…. no bears in sight.

Also this weekend Amy decided that she wanted to learn more about photography so she brought along my Rebel XS and snapped several good pictures. I am very proud of her, she listened to my rantings about shutter speed, aperture, and Iso Speeds and how they all worked together, image composure, and post processing pet peeves. She did wonderful for her first outting and I think most of you will also agree! Below are some photos she took, along with one I took of her!

Fall Arrives
With the arrival of the fall season and the changing of the leaves, i thought I would post my first ever HDR image of a nice fall scene. HDR stands for High Dynamic Range, basically it is 3 photos of the same thing combined into one to cover all the range of tones and colors in the scene. For this particular image there are 1 very underexposed image, 1 very overexposed image and 1 image which is perfect. The 3 combined cover all the range of highlights and shadows in the scene. This is what gives the image a more surreal look, sometimes unreal looking outcome.

100 Strangers
Tonight I have decided to embark upon a long “hopefully not too long” journey. In my pursuit into the world of photography, I have been struggling with trying to find an assignment which will challenge me in every way. Finally after many hours of browsing the world wide web I have found it. 100 Strangers. 100 Strangers is a self assigned photo project to introduce yourself to 100 strangers and ask them if you can take their picture, as well as get a small back story on them.
I have always considered myself a pretty social person, but it’s a little different when you’re asking to take a photograph of a complete stranger. I also beleive this project will help me on the business side of my life, and who knows…. maybe I will make a friend or two. I am giving myself to the end of the year, Dec 31st to complete this project and I will be posting each person I find. I believe I will make a special page for it all which will be located at the top of this page. So until person 1…… signing off.
Feild Wedding – Trust, North Carolina
This wedding took place in Trust, North Carolina in a very small but spectacular chapel called St Judes Chapel of Hope, which was built by by Mrs. Barutio, who credits St. Jude with her recovery from cancer. The chapel itself seats about 8 people, and there is an alter were visitors have left things in memory of loved ones. One of the most facinating places I have ever visited and it is open year round to anyone who wishes to see it. A picture of it is below. Very challenging place to shoot a wedding because of the limited amount of space to move in, but it was very nice and relaxing. I suggest any of you who live in the area take the trip to the small town of Trust and visit. Here are few photos from the wedding.

Madison County Fair Results!
This week was the Madison County fair. After procrastinating all summer up until 1 day before submission deadline I finally picked 5 photos for myself and Zoe also went out and took a photo to enter it into the 5-8 year old catagory. I didn’t have high expectations because I knew I had waited until the last minute to throw 5 photos together but on Wed. when we went down to see the results I was blown away! I had received 1st place on 1 photo, and 3rd place on 3 of the others. 1 photo recieved nothing but thats ok, 4 out of 5 under the circumstances was fine with me! Also, even better Zoe also won 1st place for her photo in her catagory! I am so proud of her! Here are the photos we submitted.
